Notching up swim miles

The Midmar Mile claims to be world's largest open water swim event.

It was not an event high on my to-do list but this year I did it. I also happened to be the 50th year of this event, so it was extra-special to be part of it.

I swam two races - each a mile, which is 1600 metres. Each mile is referred to as a crossing because you start at one side of the dam and swim a straight line to the finish line.

So, I now have two crossings to my name.

My second swim was a lot faster and I clipped just over 3 minutes off my first.

Happy with my 33 minute finish. On the dot, no seconds.

The organisation of this event is top-notch and the atmosphere around the event quite intoxicating.

Beside the 1-mile swim races, there is also the 8-miler event. I may just sign up for that in 2024.
