Third Ironman under the belt

Two full Ironman triathlon finishes in six months is something I never planned and never thought would be a possible feat for me. But it happened when I completed my third full Ironman-branded distance on 3 April 2022 - on the back of my finish on 21 November 2021.
Now there is one thing that needs to be put on the table: triathlons involves a swim, bike and run. In all the three full Ironman events I have done, there has not been a full 3.9km swim. In 2019, the swim was shortened to 2.1km due to bluebottles in the sea; 2021 was cut to 750m due to rough sea; and the last was cancelled for age groupers due to poor weather (rain, wind, choppy sea, poor visibility).

Despite swim being cancelled it does not mean it not an Ironman. And certainly did not mean it was easier.
3 April was a tough day out. It was cold, wet and windy on the bike ride; and warm and humid on the run.
With the swim cancelled (always disappointing for me) it was a long bone-aching cold wait for the bike start. Thoughts of heading back to a warm bed filled my head.

But, it turned out to be a wonderful day out. Having spectators back in full force was exhilarating. I enjoyed making some friends on the course who spurred me on.

A special thanks everyone who has contributed to Ironman For The Kidz South Africa. The organisation does fantastic work they do in uplifting the lives of the youth in disadvantaged communities. I am happy to be able to make a small contribution.
